WINDSOR'S WISDOM
McLaren boss Ron Dennis has expressed concerns for Lewis Hamilton's privacy, while sports marketing agencies are queuing up for him. How do you think Lewis should manage the trappings of fame and fortune?
I was only thinking the other day how much Nike would pay for, say, a five year exclusive with Lewis Hamilton. $50 million per year? $100 million?
Of course companies like Nike are not compatible with the McLaren sponsorship portfolio, so this deal will never happen. Interesting to speculate in Tiger Woods terms, however.
Ron Dennis is right, of course, to be concerned about Lewis's privacy.
The British press have proved over and over again to be completely incapable of respecting the privacy and dignity of their sporting stars and the case of Lewis will be no different.

Honda hope for Magny Cours progress
The Honda Formula One team are hoping to put in a better showing than in recent grands prix at next weekend's race in France.Honda's senior technical director Shuhei Nakamoto has confirmed that the team has been able to complete its full testing programme at Jerez in Spain and is now set to unveil several new additions to the cars for drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello.Button, who ran 122 of the 260 testing laps at the Spanish circuit, has complained that the car has not been performing of late but has consistently remained hopeful that once the new technical developments are brought in, better performances would follow."We made some good progress at the three-day test in Jerez where the excellent weather allowed us to fully complete our planned programme," Nakamoto said."We were therefore able to sign off various new mechanical parts and an aerodynamic upgrade for the RA107 as well as further improvements to the stability under braking."We expect a small improvement in performance in both qualifying and the race next weekend at Magny Cours."Honda have yet to score a World Championship point through seven rounds of the F1 season, leading many to question the development of a team that finished fourth in the constructors' championship last season. But Jacky Eeckelaert, the team's engineering director, echoed Nakamoto's sentiments, claiming the team were on the verge of a breakthrough."Our initial conclusion is that the results from this week are positive and that we have seen a good correlation between the track data and the results from the wind tunnel," he said."Therefore we expect to make a small step forward in performance at the next race."British driver Button added: "I believe it was a positive test.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE:IRF), a world leader in power management technology, today introduced the IRAUDAMP4 Class D audio power amplifier reference design. Compared to typical circuit designs, the new reference design illustrates how designers can reduce PCB board space by 50 percent for Class D audio amplifiers for the entire mid-voltage range of mid- and high-power amplifiers for home theatre applications, professional amplifiers, musical instruments and car entertainment.
"With THD+N at 0.004% at 60W into four ohms, this reference design demonstrates IR's state-of-the art silicon enabling the best in audio performance from Class D topology," said Stephane Ernoux, product marketing manager at International Rectifier.
Showcasing IR's IRS20955 200V digital audio driver IC and the IRF6645 DirectFET® digital audio MOSFETs, the IRAUDAMP4 reference design is a two-channel, 120W half-bridge design offering 96% efficiency at 120W, four ohms.

Honda FCX Continues Evolution Of Fuel Cell Technology
Commercialization has always seemed just "over the next hill" with promises of "we're almost there" silencing the eager in the backseat. Before going green was cool, and when gas purchases didn't require a second thought, a hydrogen economy seemed too expensive, too laborious, and not worth the investment or effort. My, how things have changed.
Fuel cells are now poised to become a part of everything from our laptops to our heaters to our vehicles. One car maker, Honda, has been particularly active in investing in the future with their concept FCX fuel cell vehicle. On Tuesday, the FCX made its European debut in Sweden sporting some new features that are notably impressive over previous incarnations of the model. First off, the vehicle is highly efficient, with an energy efficiency of around 60 percent.

Put safety first at races
Had it not been for the quick, firm action of Wilson County sheriff's deputies, numerous fatalities and injuries could have resulted. This close call should prompt better safety precautions, stronger discipline for drivers and their crews, stricter rules and higher-profile law enforcement at the track.
Some details of the incident are in dispute, but it's clear from a photograph taken on pit row that an extremely dangerous situation took place. Deputies on both sides of a race car had drawn their weapons and were prepared to use deadly force if necessary to avoid a larger disaster.
The incident began as a dispute between drivers. That's nothing new in automobile racing, where "trading paint" as one car nudges or clips another one is a common part of the race. Sometimes the contact gets too hard, and drivers are angered over being knocked out of a race or placed in jeopardy.
